About Me

Michael Pertl

Welcome!

My name is Michael Pertl and I am the founder of The Smart Insights. I am an electric power system expert with a focus on modeling and simulation.

I am originally from Austria, where I also got my Bachelor and Master degrees in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Graz. After that, I moved to Denmark to work on my PhD in electric power systems at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), which I concluded with the dissertation “Observability and Decision Support for Supervision of distributed Power System Control” (download it here). During my PhD, I also had a research stay at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) where we developed a model to aggregate and forecast the flexible demand from tens to thousands of electric vehicle supply equipments by representing the aggregated EVs as an equivalent time-variant storage model. The corresponding paper and my other publications can be found on Google Scholar. For further information about my education and professional career please check my LinkedIn profile (and don’t hesitate to connect).

Beside the technical part of my life, to keep my personal balance, I like to go skiing (especially freeriding), playing tennis, and hiking.

If there is anything else you want to know please drop me a message.

Cheers,
Michael
